Sibford School supports innovative School kitchen project and comes up trumps again!

SIBFORD SCHOOL DONATION ENABLED THIS SCHOOL KITCHEN BUILDING.

The building in the photos was built from money donated by the staff and pupils of Sibford School in Oxfordshire, England. Sibford School and the Nchima Trust have developed a strong relationship over the past few years and the School has donated generously to specific projects which they have been able to see come to fruition.

Photos of the paper making process at the Nchima Trust Centre - the paper is made into cards available for purchase in this website

The paper is made from recycled/shredded paper which is mixed with water to make a pulp. From there it is sieved, dried, trimmed and decorated. The results are cleverly crafted and charming images of Malawi.

Sibford School scores again!

Sibford School pupils and staff work closely with Nchima Trust to provide support to Ntambanyama school in Malawi. As you will see from an earlier blog they purchased a batch of calculators last year and this year they have provided support for renovation of one of the school buildings and the provision of a system put in place by the school to provide meals for girls in particular. While this may appear to be an elementary and often taken for granted initiative, studying on an empty stomach is not easy as we may know and in addition to this, if pupils go home to eat they are often then required to help at home or in the fields which becomes a distraction from studies - the initial outcome is that pupil performance has improved significantly by those who have benefited from this generous and thoughtful initiative - thanks to Sibford School.

A Good Read - Try 'The boy who harnessed the wind' by William Kamkwamba - an inspiring and moving story from a young Malawian

This is a great book which takes the reader through the harrassing effects of famine through to an inspirational use of technology to harness the wind for the benefit of a Malawian family, against all odds. William Kamkwamba's story brings out the reality of the true hardship that Malawians face, particularly those in rural areas. This is a very moving account of famine and ingenuity at the turn of this century.

Chinyama District receives 2 more ambucycles in memory of Renee Van Hees

A donation in memory of Dr. ReneeVan Hees was spent on 2 ambucycles (reinforced for poor terrain) which were donated to the Chinyama CBO (Community based organisation). Chinyama is in a relatively remote area of Malawi with poor access to health care facilities. In addition to this many of the men work away from home so these ambucycles are very helpful. The CBO is well organised and Nchima has supported it in supporting itself for some time now. They look after donated items and as can be seen in the delightful account from Jeannette Heikens, our Malawi based volunteer, we are encouraging other self help initiatives.
